How are college dance classes graded?

Like other subjects, dance technique courses usually have a set of objectives or skills that a student must work on in order to earn a top grade and proceed to the next level. Criteria may include maintaining good alignment, ability to implement corrections, ability to execute nuances of rhythm and phrasing, improved balance, showing increased strength and endurance, developing good spatial awareness, ability to do clean double pirouettes, etc. Programs tend to consider not just physical improvement but also intellectual growth, like the ability to understand, apply, and think critically about theoretical concepts learned in subjects like anatomy and kinesiology or composition.
