What should I wear to a college dance audition?
asked by Dancingqueen17
Most schools will specify what they want you to wear to an audition, so check with the college of your choice for details. If not, dressing in a clean-cut, not too extravagant outfit is a good way to go. Wear dancewear that is form fitted, that you are comfortable in and that shows off your alignment. The people you’re auditioning for want to be able to see what you’re doing, so don’t hide behind baggy clothes, layers, or anything too crazy that will steal attention away from your dancing. Chewing gum or wearing jewelry is not a good idea. In bigger auditions, it helps to wear a distinctive color.
For a ballet audition, wear traditional ballet attire (leotard, tights, and ballet shoes). You may need to bring other shoes, as well, depending on what other styles you will be dancing. Make sure that you know this information ahead of time. And, when in doubt, bring every style of shoe you own and a couple different outfits (jazz pants, a skirt, and shorts) so that you will never be unprepared.
You will most likely be given a number, fasten it securely so it doesn’t flap. As for hair, a simple ponytail or bun will usually do, just make sure it will hold up throughout the audition. Remember, lack of concern about your appearance may be interpreted as lack of respect for the college.
